High purity quartz sandThe purification process is mainly to remove small or trace impurities to obtain high-purity quartz sand. Commonly used processes include scrubbing, gravity separation, magnetic separation, flotation, and acid leaching.

Scrubbing: Use mechanical force and peeling force between sand grains to remove impurities, iron, cement and mineral mud on the surface of quartz sand. Scrubbing enables the quartz sand minerals to effectively discharge a part of impurities in the early stage and clean the surface of the quartz sand particles, so as to smoothly carry out the subsequent purification work.

Gravity selection: Gravity selection is to screen minerals according to the different gravity of the minerals. Due to the difference in density, the mineral particles are affected differently by fluid force and mechanical force in the medium, resulting in loose stratification, and the ore particles are separated.

Magnetic separation: Magnetic separation is the separation of magnetic impurity minerals and particles in quartz sand. Quartz in quartz sand is a diamagnetic substance and cannot be magnetized in a magnetic field. Most of the impurities containing Fe and Ti are paramagnetic substances that can be magnetized, so that the impurities containing Fe and Ti can be removed by magnetic separation to obtain very High quartz sand content. The equipment usually used in magnetic separation is wet strong magnetic separator and high gradient magnetic separator.

Flotation: Flotation is a process of separating mineral particles through different physical and chemical properties on the surface of mineral particles. The main function is to remove the related mineral mica and feldspar from the quartz sand. The study found that the pH value of the slurry and the type and amount of collectors have a significant impact on the purification effect of flotation.

Acid leaching: Quartz is insoluble in acid (except hydrofluoric acid). The acid dissolves iron and other harmful elements to separate impurities and obtain high-purity quartz sand. Impurities in the surface and crevices of quartz sand can be removed to the limit by acid leaching, and physical methods such as magnetic separation and flotation can only remove mineral structure impurities.

Studies have found that the use of mixed acid in the acid leaching process to remove impurities is better. Quartz will be dissolved by hydrofluoric acid, so the concentration of hydrofluoric acid in the mixed acid should not be too high. Time, acid concentration, washing process and temperature are all factors that affect the effect of acid leaching.
